MobileRedirect

How do you use MobileRedirect?

MobileRedirect is a function which is included and called from your current Website. Please consult your favorite programming language information/support site for more information on how to call or integrate functions. The function itself is a regular expression that identifies 96% of the 10,600 mobile devices in the current release of WURFL (as of 4/2009). Ideally, you would want to run MobileRedirect only at the start of a new user session. Once the requeseting device has been identified as a mobile, they would be sent along to the mobile site. For all others, you would want to set a cookie or session variable to show the device has already been identified, and bypass the mobile detection script. This isn't required, it would just speed up each request since checking the value of a cookie or session variable is much faster than a regular expression string function. We provide a simple example showing how to use MobileRedirect, if you have any questions, please use our contact form.

Will MobileRedirect be available in other languages?

We have plans to release a JSP version of MobileRedirect. If you would like us to offer any other languages, or frameworks, just ask.

What do you get when you purchase MobileRedirect?

You get a copy of MobileRedirect in every language we offer it in, a license granting you rights to use MobileRedirect, and free upgrades for life. We also include some basic instructions on how to set it up.

How good is MobileRedirect, will it catch 'every' mobile device?

We will always work to improve MobileRedirect, since there's always new devices on the market. Upon it's first release, version 1.0, MobileRedirect identifies 96% of the 10,600 mobile devices in the current release of WURFL (as of 4/2009). The other four percent, are rather obscure devices, and supporting all of these would diminish the performace of the script.

How is MobileRedirect Licensed?

  • Single Use - for companies and developers to use on a single site/project - not for resale.
  • Commercial Software License: for companies wanting to integrate the solution into their commercial products or services - ok for resale.
  • Non Profit - same as the Single Use license, but for official Non Profit Organizations - not for resale. Note: not making a profit is not the same as being a Non Profit Organization.
MobileLaunch

MobileLaunch will be available in ColdFusion (CFML) and PHP.

How do you use MobileLaunch?

MobileLaunch includes the MobileRedirect product, which is installed into your current Website. To use MobileLaunch, you will need to upload our files to the directory where you wish to host your mobile site. MobileLaunch has six settings for you to configure before you can launch your site. Once these are set, you start planning what pages you'd like on your mobile site. Our framework makes it easy to add pages - just stick with xHTML MP for your formatting and you'll do just fine. xHTML MP isn't very different from xHTML, see our links page for more information on xHTML MP. MobileLaunch uses a 'skin' system for it's design. You may either select from one of the skins that comes with the product, or design your own using our specs. We've even included a contact form along with a universal form processor which sends all submissions to your email address.

Will MobileLaunch be available in other languages?

Yes, we plan to offer MobileLaunch in more programming languages and frameworks.

What screen size or resolution does this support?

For reference, common mobile device screen sizes are:120x120 128x128, 176x220, and 128x160. PSP's support the following resoltuions: 320x240, 368x208, 400x192. Pocket PC's support these: 160x160, 160x240, 176x220, 240x200, 240x240, 240x320. This means your site will need to work within a width of 120 - 400. Our designs are ideal for a 120px wide screen. If you want to show a different layout for different screen sizes, you'll need to use the WURFL XML data to identify each device.
